Synopsis

Welcome to the world of Hipsterdom, where your worth is determined by how many people know you, how cynical you can be about current trends, and how little you can do on a weekday. It is a world that two hipster wannabes want nothing more than to be a part of.

Meet Terrance, who will do anything to become famous. Unfortunately his band, The Black Guts, is going nowhere. At night, he unhappily sleeps with Scary Mary, even though he’s really in love with Sue Byrkit, his ex-girlfriend.

Terrance’s best friend and voice of reason is Theo Huxtable, a struggling writer who has penned a novel entitled, Truck Stop Hustler. The book is about a fictional character named KK Downey, a used and abused teenage prostitute. Theo cannot generate any interest in Truck Stop. As one publisher tells him “Nobody wants to read a book about a teenaged hooker boy written by a vanilla piece of vanilla white bread!”

The band sucks and the book is collecting dust. So, what are these two failures going to do?

They are going to scratch off Theo’s name as the author of Truck Stop and replace it with KK Downey’s. As Terrance says, “Make it autobiographical.” Terrance throws on a long black wig, dark glasses and in an instant they have created the quintessential tortured artist/hipster poster boy. As a memoir, the book sells like hot cakes and KK Downey becomes a sensation, with Theo acting as his manager. Everything is peachy.

As KK’s stock rises, with sold out readings, movie deals, and the opening of a Warholian art space, the strain of fame begins to wear on Terrance. He starts to pull away from the limelight after experiencing the superficiality of being a pop celebrity. On the flipside, Theo has taken his role as KK’s manager to Phil Spector-ian heights, but with more cocaine and paranoia.

Sue and Terrance (as KK) become closer and Terrance is tempted to reveal his true identity. Meanwhile, Connor has begun a one-man crusade to prove to the world that KK Downey is in fact, a hack.

After Theo and his goons beat Connor to a pulp, he stumbles upon a secret in the hospital. The secret is Frankie Lola, a fellow patient who makes Keith Richards look like Martin Luther. Lola is the real KK Downey, whose stories of sex, drugs, and hooking inspired a young Theo Huxtable when he volunteered at the re-hab clinic.

Now it is only a matter of time before Connor exposes the two friends for the frauds they are, presenting Frankie to the world as the real KK.

Will the power crazed Theo fall gently? Will Frankie Lola last in the real world for more than 10 minutes? How will Sue feel about the discovery that KK is her stupid ex-boyfriend, Terrance? After a high speed chase, a funeral and a little soul searching, we find out.
